“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”
Matthew 11:28-30 The Message (MSG)
Almost sounds like a commercial for a vacation, doesn't it? This translation of Scripture puts Jesus' words in plain language. When we read other versions of God's Word these feelings are described as "weary and burdened" or "heavy laden." Today's lingo coins terms like "worn out," "burned out" and "tired." We may say it differently these days, but the meaning is the same. We may think about it differently in these times, but Jesus hasn't changed. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. He still offers to take our weary, burdened, burned out and tired lives and show us how to rest. He still says "Come to me."
Following Christ may not always be easy, but when we do follow Him, we are never alone. He will not let us fall under the weight of the load we carry, even if we stumble. His yoke is easy and His burden is light because He helps us to carry our burdens when we rely upon His Spirit to guide us.
Don't let the world get you down. Jesus has overcome the world and is preparing a place for those who follow Him where there is peace, joy and rest from all our troubles. He invites us to "get away" with Him. This destination will be unlike any trip we have ever taken and it is to a paradise that will never end. It may not be advertised on television, but that's because we don't need money to go there. All we need is faith and just get on board.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 NIV
