Are we beginning to praise ourselves again? Are we like others, who need to bring you letters of recommendation, or who ask you to write such letters on their behalf? Surely not! Clearly, you are a letter from Christ showing the result of our ministry among you. This “letter” is written not with pen and ink, but with the Spirit of the living God. It is carved not on tablets of stone, but on human hearts. We are confident of all this because of our great trust in God through Christ. It is not that we think we are qualified to do anything on our own. Our qualification comes from God. 2 Corinthians 3:1, 3-5 New Living Translation (NLT) It can be beneficial to have a letter of recommendation from a previous employer to present when seeking another opportunity. To have our qualifications lauded in written form by someone who holds us in high regard can go far in securing a new job. That piece of paper can eliminate the necessity of patting ourselves on the back too much when attempting to prove that we are indeed all we profess to be. At the very least, it conveys that somebody else esteems our talents and abilities. However, what we really are capable of doing will eventually be reflected by what we actually do. Not so with God for He is the Author of our potential. We can do all things through Christ, no matter what someone says. Who we really are is written on our hearts and this reality comes with time to those who don't know us. God already knows us because He created us for His purpose. He knows who and what He made us to be. He knows our thoughts. He knows our true feelings. He knows our past, present and future. He established our qualifications. He knows those things about us we have managed to disguise from people who think they know us as they offer recommendations about us to total strangers. When we accept Jesus as our Savior, He lives within us through the Holy Spirit and writes His desires on our hearts for how we are to be and to live, not with pen and ink on a piece of paper. As we trust in Christ, we have an Intercessor who seeks to qualify us to God the Father. In His righteousness, we obtain qualifications to which no letter of recommendation can compare. Let's make Jesus Christ our number one reference since He gave His life to forgive us for all we are not and makes a way for all that we can be. In His light, we can represent a set of qualifications beyond that of any human accolades. . . . giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. Colossians 1:12 ESV
