A Week With Isaiah: Belonging to God

“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the Lord your God . . . .”

Isaiah 43:1-3 New International Version (NIV)

Everyone has been afraid of something. Even those who are believers in the Most High God and call Jesus Savior and Lord tremble in fear about certain things. Real or imagined, this world can be a scary place. That's most likely because we have limited memories. God does not. He not only knows His own, He claims them and protects them. He knows them by name.

As we go through trials in life, we sometimes forget that God is sovereign and He has made promises which He will always keep. He, who does not sleep or slumber, also never forgets. Our names are written on His hands. As trouble assails us, we must never forget who we belong to. He is the Great I AM. Let the redeemed of the Lord say so! (Psalm 107:2)

“The Lord has deserted us; the Lord has forgotten us.”

“Never! . . . . I would not forget you! See, I have written your name on the palms of my hands. Isaiah 49:14-16 NLT
