Who will rise up for me against the wicked? Who will take a stand for me against evildoers? Unless the Lord had given me help, I would soon have dwelt in the silence of death. When I said, “My foot is slipping,” your unfailing love, Lord, supported me. When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy.
Psalm 94:16-19 NIV
Following Christ does not mean we have no trouble. What it does mean is that we have help. We have a Savior. God did not send His Son to live in a world where there is nothing to fear. Jesus came to show God's power to conquer our fears. That is if we believe Him. There is one thing we can all agree about: there is evil in this world. Whether we accept it or not, we have an enemy bent on the destruction of our souls and unfortunately, he still has the power to know our fears. It doesn't matter if we are under direct attack or if we simply fear being attacked, the enemy has us right where he wants us—afraid, vulnerable and open to deceit. Repeatedly throughout Scripture, God tells us to not be afraid. Until He removes the evil in this world, He will give us the help we need to overcome our fears. We need only to believe in His power, seek His refuge and rely upon His help. Unwavering faith in the constant presence of God covers us with the impenetrable blood of Jesus, which is stronger than any source of evil in this world. Christ defeated our enemy a long time ago. Now we just have to let Him help us to let go of our fears.
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1 NKJV
