“You are the world’s light—a city on a hill, glowing in the night for all to see. Don’t hide your light! Let it shine for all; let your good deeds glow for all to see, so that they will praise your heavenly Father.” Matthew 5:14-16 Living Bible (TLB) A mass of tiny explosions will light up the sky as fireworks are ignited in celebration of the 4th of July. In many places, people will gather to execute the performance of or to simply observe awesome displays of radiant luminosity in the heavens as is customary on this holiday. We are hopeful that everything is done in relative safety because if not handled properly, fireworks can be dangerous as their title suggests. Fire is fire and it burns. Fire can also light things up, but so can the follower of Jesus Christ, the true Light of the World. And He has given us His light. God has placed in His children the ability to shine. In a world so full of darkness, those who use this ability glow much brighter and far longer than the few minutes we spend enjoying bursts of color that are shot up into the sky. Our lights are meant to shine for everyone to see all the time. As we shine our lights together in love, we can illuminate not only the sky but the entire world. Let's shine our lights and bring God His glory! Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.” John 8:12 NLT
