“The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “Therefore I hope in Him!”
The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him. It is good that one should hope and wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.
Lamentations 3:24-26 New King James Version (NKJV)
God's people had hope in His salvation before Jesus Christ was sent to save them. They didn't know how or who, but the Word of God was clear that these people should seek and hope and wait. The prophets foretold of a Messiah, but until God sent His Son people were subject to the opinions and perspectives of those who gave them information. Even after Christ came and declared His sovereignty, He had to die and rise from the grave to prove who He was. Even then, there were those who did not believe. And even now, there are still those who do not believe.
There is a saying: "seeing is believing." Believers in Christ must challenge this perspective. As we follow Jesus Christ, we hold His Holy Spirit in our hearts. We get to see Him from the inside and we get to follow Him from the outside. We may be the only way others come to know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, and it is by our faith that we must represent Him. There are many things in life on this planet we believe in but do not see. We put faith in many things that promise us nothing but temporary pleasure or relief. We actively search for things we lose or even never had. God has sent us a Savior. Jesus is coming back to change things in God's Creation forever. And He has given us a way that we can now seek Him for ourselves.
“I will send my messenger, who will prepare the way before me. Then suddenly the Lord you are seeking will come to his temple; the messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, will come,” says the Lord Almighty. Malachi 3:1 NIV
