Now What?

Your attitude should be the kind that was shown us by Jesus Christ, who, though he was God, did not demand and cling to his rights as God, but laid aside his mighty power and glory, taking the disguise of a slave and becoming like men. And he humbled himself even further, going so far as actually to die a criminal’s death on a cross.

Yet it was because of this that God raised him up to the heights of heaven and gave him a name which is above every other name, that at the name of Jesus every knee shall bow in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Philippians 2:5-11 Living Bible (TLB)

So now what do we do? Now that the Easter bonnets are put away, the egg shells are swept up, and advertisements for what we are encouraged to purchase on our next spending sprees are plastered all over the stores, what do we do with our attitudes? Celebration of Holy Week and ultimately Resurrection Day is quite different from Christmas when we celebrate the birth of our Savior. The Son of God, who was, is and is to come was sent to dwell among us and we cheerfully go about this season for several weeks that lead us into a new year full of hope and resolve. On Easter, we are faced with the realization of why He came and the truth of what would be if He hadn't. What would we hope for then?

This can be depressing if we don't know the Lord. We look forward to the birth of a new baby, but someone dying leaves us sad. However, our Heavenly Father revealed to the world who Jesus is by resurrecting His only Son who died for our sin and gave Him as our Savior and Lord! Jesus Christ fulfilled the plan of God and through Him death is defeated. We can now follow Christ as redeemed and reconciled children of God into God's original plan for us to live with Him forever. We now have new life in Christ! God's only Son died on a cross for our sin and rose from that grave victoriously conquering death for all who believe and follow Him to the God's eternal Kingdom.

As we begin another season with Easter in our rear view mirror, we can now walk in this newness of life looking forward to the day when God fully reveals His plan for the ages. We will see our Savior who lives forever face-to-face for He is our true hope for the future. We who believe that His name is above every name can celebrate now as we trust and follow Him. We who believe are to spread this Good News with others so that none will perish but also receive everlasting life through God's gracious gift. For one day, everyone will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, whether they believe in Him or not.

Later, knowing that everything had now been finished, and so that Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, “I am thirsty.” A jar of wine...
