At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. Titus 3:3-5 NIV Being created in the image of God, we should understand mercy. Even as we experience God's mercy with every breath we take, there is something in us that stops short of being merciful to others. God had His plans from the beginning, right along with Jesus and the Holy Spirit. He didn't leave something out of us that He intended for us to have. Yet, the roles His Son and His Spirit would play in our lives would be made manifest much later. We can put this in the "Mystery of God" section of our hearts. God's mercy is why we are sustained and our job is to believe in our Creator and all He has done and is doing to finish everything He set out to do. When we begin to think we are the captains of our own ships and that things begin and end with us, we need to remember who started all this. It is God who saves us and by His mercy we are kept. If God were to take back his spirit and withdraw his breath, all life would cease, and humanity would turn again to dust. Job 34:14-15 NLT
