Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
Matthew 11:28-29 NKJV
Today we celebrate Labor Day! In this the last summer holiday, we anticipate what the fall season will bring. In our world of toil and burden, for some a day off provokes joyful activities. However, there are many who will view this as just another day and some will take the yoke of worry and despair all the way into tomorrow which will come with its own troubles. Jesus offers us eternal rest — not as in death for He has already overcome that — but rest for our souls as we live in this fallen world, as well as everlasting life and peace in the Kingdom of God. As we walk with Christ, we can lay our loads down at His feet every day and celebrate new life as we look with hope to the future God has planned for us.
Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
1 Corinthians 15:58 NIV
