Although the Lord gives you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, your teachers will be hidden no more; with your own eyes you will see them. Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”
Isaiah 30:20-21 NIV
God gave us freewill to choose what we do. He also guides our steps when we ask Him to. This has always been His way. His desire is for us to know His voice when He speaks to us. This desire was so great, He sent His only begotten Son, Jesus, to live among us to reconcile our hearts to being receptive to His call. He accomplishes this by planting His Holy Spirit within us when we accept Jesus Christ as our Savior. As we still have freewill, we will still walk in front even as we follow the example of Jesus. But just as God promised, even in adversity, we have that voice that is speaking to our spirits telling us which way to go. Let us use our freewill to listen.
