Greatest Commandments

“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”

Jesus replied:

“‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

Matthew 22:36-40 NIV

People often search the Scriptures looking for commandments that condemn someone else. We sometimes seek to find confirmation to justify our own self-righteous indignation of what is or is not the sin of our fellow man. Jesus came to teach us where to begin and how we are to receive the Word of God. He summed it up very simply: Love God and love your neighbor. When we obey these two commandments with all our hearts, we will indeed be covering everything else.
