God Looks for Us Too!

For this is what the Sovereign Lord says: “I myself will search for my sheep and look after them. As a shepherd looks after his scattered flock when he is with them, so will I look after my sheep. I will rescue them from all the places where they were scattered on a day of clouds and darkness.”

Ezekiel 34:11-12 New International Version (NIV)

The Word of God is filled with Scripture that instructs us to seek the Lord. Yet, we must remember that as we look for Him, He is definitely looking for us. God actively searches for those with a sincere desire to know Him. There are many things in life we can feign, but loving God isn't one of them. The Creator and Sustainer of life is sovereign and in full control, especially in areas that have to do with receiving His glory. It is actually better to not yet know Him than to know of Him and oppose Him. God knows those who love Him and have given their hearts to Him (1 Corinthians 8:3) and He fills our hearts with His Spirit. We are then permanently on His radar.

Believers are likened to sheep because we scatter and can be led astray. The Lord is our Shepherd and like any good shepherd, He carefully looks after His flock. Unlike sheep, God created mankind with free will and therefore we have the ability to seek our Shepherd when we lose our way. But sometimes when life gets cloudy, we don't even know that we are lost. God sent His Son, Jesus, to give us the path to follow so we don't lose our way so easily. The promise to those who believe is that when we do get lost in the darkness of this world, God Himself will rescue us. Trust Him.
