God Knows Us

On the way, Jesus told them, “Tonight all of you will desert me. For the Scriptures say, ‘God will strike the Shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’

But after I have been raised from the dead, I will go ahead of you to Galilee and meet you there.”

Peter declared, “Even if everyone else deserts you, I will never desert you.”

Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, Peter—this very night, before the rooster crows, you will deny three times that you even know me.”

Matthew 26:31-34 NLT

When we claim Jesus as Savior and Lord, we profess to believe in Him who knows our weaknesses and failures, but He who still bids us to follow Him. The disciples wanted to think they were faithful, but Jesus knew they would run. Yet, this process of salvation that began with fear was replaced by the power of the Holy Spirit, who came to indwell them after Christ returned to the Father. We cannot save ourselves but God has a plan to take every one of our faults and make us new. God sent Jesus because He already knew those He created were imperfect and would need to be saved. Our job is to know and believe in Him now.
