How can you think of saying to your friend, ‘Let me help you get rid of that speck in your eye,’ when you can’t see past the log in your own eye? Hypocrite! First get rid of the log in your own eye; then you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend’s eye. Matthew 7:4-5 New Living Translation (NLT) When something obstructs our vision, it is difficult to see clearly. Indeed, we can miss seeing things with both eyes perfectly clear! Yet people often offer assistance to someone else even through their own blurred vision. Perhaps this is where the saying "the blind leading the blind" comes from. Certainly, we can help one another in our quest to follow the ways of Jesus, but we must first seek to follow Him ourselves. Even better is the mutual pursuit of following Christ together.
