Fear or Faith?

I’ve commanded you to be strong and brave.  Don’t ever be afraid or discouraged!  I am the Lord your God, and I will be there to help you wherever you go.

Joshua 1:9 Contemporary English Version (CEV)

Do you ever feel afraid?  Sometimes life can take the little courage we muster right out of us and our knees literally shake with fear at the prospect of doing something we don't think we can do.  We can become paralyzed at the mere thought of moving forward through some challenges we face.  We get discouraged and despairing because the fear makes us weak and we lose confidence in our abilities to succeed in accomplishing what is set before us to do.  When Moses died, Joshua felt this kind of fear of becoming his replacement, until God reminded him that it was His plan and He would be there to see it through.  Joshua was only the vessel God would use to accomplish His plan.

We are challenged every day in this world.  Situations and circumstances to defeat us can turn into obstacles on any path we choose, especially the roads we take that honor God.  Sometimes the enemy of our soul attempts to block us because that's his way of rebelling against God and his futile attempt to thwart God's plan.  Don't let him fool you - it is he who is defeated.  He's already lost the war and God promises to be with us through every battle.  We are more than conquerors through Christ.

God has commanded us to be strong and brave as we follow His plans, just as He did Joshua.  We are repeatedly told in God's Word not to fear anything.  All we need to do is trust and obey His Word.  If then we do become fearful of the way ahead, we can remember God's promise to be there to help us WHEREVER we go!

It takes faith not to fear.  It takes faith to believe what God says.  Since fear and faith cannot co-exist, let's walk by faith.  Let us never be afraid of anything in this world as we follow Jesus and choose to trust God's promise to always be with us because He is!
