Let's Talk

Jesus, Our Healer

Some teachers of the law who were Pharisees were there.  They saw Jesus eating with sinners and tax collectors.  So they asked his disciples, “Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?”

Jesus heard that.  So he said to them, “Those who are healthy don’t need a doctor.  Sick people do. I have not come to get those who think they are right with God to follow me.  I have come to get sinners to follow me.”

Mark 2:16-17 New International Reader's Version (NIRV)

Everybody gets sick at one time or another.  Anyone who never gets sick is the recipient of immeasurable grace.  No matter how much money we have or how good our insurance is or how well we take care of our bodies, we will all need a doctor at some point.  Whether the malady is physical or spiritual, we will require healing and Jesus is our Great Physician.  Enter Jehovah Rapha - The God who heals!

When Jesus came to dwell among mankind, He went straight for the sick.  Those sick in body, those sick at heart, those sick from sin could all count on His healing.  There were some who did not believe in Christ or who He was, even as they witnessed the miracles He performed, because they felt they were already righteous and self-sufficient.  Little did they know that self-righteousness was a sickness which resulted from the sin of pride.  These people even tried to stop Jesus from healing those who wanted to be healed.  But He did it anyway.  He even raised some from the dead!  They even killed Him, but God raised Him from the dead and the plan of salvation continued.  We serve a God who heals.

In these days of health care not being available to people who are sick and in need of a physician, we can be thankful for the blessed assurance that God is our Healer.  He can heal our bodies as well as our souls.  God promises to care for His children and He is a Healer for those who are sick and need His help.  Jesus can crawl into the hearts of earthly physicians and enlist their service to help the physically ill, if He chooses to heal in this way.  Jesus can crawl into our hearts and free us from the sin that causes spiritual sickness, if we choose His way.  All we have to do is ask for help and healing and believe in Him.

For those who don't think they need this healing, I wish you always well.
