God Speaks

As soon as Jesus was baptized, He went up out of the water.  At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on Him.  And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with Him I am well pleased.”
Matthew 3:16-17 New International Version (NIV)

While he was still speaking, a bright cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with Him I am well pleased.  Listen to Him!”
Matthew 17:5 New International Version (NIV)

We accept human testimony, but God’s testimony is greater because it is the testimony of God, which He has given about His Son.  Whoever believes in the Son of God accepts this testimony.  Whoever does not believe God has made Him out to be a liar, because they have not believed the testimony God has given about His Son.  And this is the testimony:  God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.
1 John 5:9-11 New International Version (NIV)

I can only imagine what those who actually heard God speak claiming Jesus as His Son must have felt.  Yet His voice came through loud and clear and left no doubt about who He was and what He was saying.  I am thankful that our Heavenly Father determined that what He said to them under those circumstances should be recorded in His Word.

We accept human testimony because God has commissioned those who follow Christ to share the Gospel and He inspired His Word to be written by man.  However, God still speaks to us.  He speaks to our hearts.  When we follow His Son and meditate on His Word, the Holy Spirit is that still small voice whispering which way to go when we are lost or afraid, and teaching us things we do not know or understand.  God speaks to us as He constantly walks by our side encouraging us to keep following Jesus and trusting in Him.  "Listen to Him."

If you start hearing voices that don't line up with God's Word, don't get confused and wonder if God is trying to tell you something.  God is not about confusion and He doesn't have to try to do anything.  His will shall be done on earth and in Heaven.  Pray.  Ask Him for His will.  We may not always listen to Him, but He always listens to us.  He is able to do abundantly more than we could think or ask.  Refer to His Word of Truth and He will clearly let You know exactly what He has to say about everything.
