But our God formed the earth by his power and wisdom, and by his intelligence he hung the stars in space and stretched out the heavens. It is his voice that echoes in the thunder of the storm clouds. He causes mist to rise upon the earth; he sends the lightning and brings the rain, and from his treasuries he brings the wind.
But foolish men without knowledge of God bow before their idols. It is a shameful business that these men are in, for what they make are frauds, gods without life or power in them. All are worthless, silly; they will be crushed when their makers perish. But the God of Jacob is not like these foolish idols. He is the Creator of all, and Israel is his chosen nation. The Lord Almighty is his name.
Jeremiah 10:12-16 Living Bible (TLB)
We were created and are sustained by the only wise God. His Word declares His greatness. Nature displays His power. His goodness is demonstrated in His grace and never-failing love for us. God is merciful, faithful and constant. How can we understand His ways? We can't because we are limited.
As we try to control our world and the things that happen in our lives, we eventually realize just how limited we are. We do all sorts of things trying to make things happen. We make idols of "stuff" and even of ourselves believing that if we do this or that, we will get the results we desire. Many people go for a long time before finding out that they are not in control of what happens in their lives. But, we all come to moments in life when we must glorify God because we see our limitations. In these times, He gets His glory whether we give it to Him or not. He is El Shaddai - the Lord Almighty. The Living God is watching over everything at the same time and He is in total control. We don't have that kind of power. But He gave us Jesus to intercede for us.
When we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we receive His Spirit in our hearts. We are given power through the Holy Spirit and by following Him, we receive the ability to face the things we can't control. We can put our faith in God, trust Him for what we need, then praise Him for who He is, the Maker of all things. He will guide our paths as surely as He gave us the life we try so hard to control. Let's put the idols down we use trying so hard to do things on our own. They are worthless and they are offensive to our Creator. It is God who makes things work for our good and His glory. Let's thank Him.
