Living the New Life
Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. And when Christ, who is your life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory.
So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don’t be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world. Because of these sins, the anger of God is coming. You used to do these things when your life was still part of this world. But now is the time to get rid of anger, rage, malicious behavior, slander, and dirty language. Don’t lie to each other, for you have stripped off your old sinful nature and all its wicked deeds. Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him. In this new life, it doesn’t matter if you are a Jew or a Gentile, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbaric, uncivilized, slave, or free. Christ is all that matters, and he lives in all of us.
Colossians 3:1-11 New Living Translation (NLT)
At the beginning of a new year, we begin to make plans for the next 365 days. We hope to resolve negative issues and circumstances we have experienced and pray for strength to overcome what we couldn't fix in the past year in this new year we now enter. We look forward to better days ahead and cheerfully determine that this year will be better. And things will get better in this new era if we allow Christ to lead us into the new life He offers us every day. He gives us a choice. He offers to live in us and help us to live in Him.
Putting on a new nature is pretty much like changing clothes. If the old clothes are worn out from too much wear and tear, we can't make them new again on our own. So we throw them away and put on something new. However, we are unable to make our lives new on our own and we aren't supposed to even try to throw the gift of life away. As Believers, we are given the opportunity for renewal and be dressed in the righteousness of Jesus Christ. By His righteousness we are made new and provided a way to truly overcome those things that hinder and hold us down. We have a future and a hope through the promises of God. We are totally new creatures as we believe in and follow our Savior.
Our hopes and dreams for the coming year are real. We truly desire to accomplish the good things that we set out to do. As we line those desires up with God's will and believe in His promise of abundant life, we can do all things through Jesus Christ who is our strength. We already have new life in Him when we accept Him as our Savior and Lord. We only need to put on His robe of righteousness which He offers us freely to wear, follow in His steps and trust His Word.
Happy New Year! Happy New Life!
