Let's Talk

Come Boldly

But Jesus the Son of God is our great High Priest who has gone to heaven itself to help us; therefore let us never stop trusting him.  This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses since he had the same temptations we do, though he never once gave way to them and sinned.  So let us come boldly to the very throne of God and stay there to receive his mercy and to find grace to help us in our times of need.

Hebrews 4:14-16 Living Bible (TLB)

We have an Intercessor.  God exalted Jesus, His only begotten Son, to sit at His right hand after His resurrection.  And what does Christ do as He sits in this place of honor?  He pleads for us!  I often wonder if He gets tired of coming to my defense.

Because we also have an accuser, we need the interceding of Christ.  If we believe that Jesus is who He says He is, we must believe the enemy of our souls is who he demonstrates himself to be as well.  This enemy is constantly seeking our condemnation, just as surely as Christ died on that Cross to secure our salvation.  That requires HUGE forgiveness and intercession on a persistent basis because of who we are.  We just can't do it!  None of us are righteous - "No, not one."

I don't know the mind of God, but it is difficult to wrap my mind around the fact that Jesus, who was without sin, died for mine, once and for all time.  God already knew we would need a Savior and He gave us His Son.  Then after dying for our sin, He went back to His Father to represent us, intercede for us, prepare a place for us in eternity and declare us to be joint-heirs to His Kingdom.  Not only that, the Holy Spirit was left to help, comfort and guide us through life while we wait for His Kingdom to come!

And what does God ask for in return?  Belief and trust in His power to do all this, which lead us to obedience and appreciation.  That's the least we can give for this gift we did not earn.  All glory to God for this amazing grace!  We have a great High Priest, indeed.  Come boldly to His Throne!
