God is Love

If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God.  And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.

1 John 4:15-16 New International Version (NIV)

"She's on my last nerve!"  That's OK.  Love her anyway.
"I can't stand him."  That's all right.  Love him anyway.
"They are horrible people!"  God made them too.  Love them anyway.
"We are so much better than them."  You think so?  Gotta love 'em.

We are each so far from perfection that it is almost funny how we can manage to find so much wrong with anybody else.  Loving imperfection is God's specialty because He is our Creator.  Yet, He made us to be willingly transformed into His likeness, as we were already created in His image.  I am so glad that God is love because as we love, He lives in us and shows us how to love one another.  Sometimes it's not easy.  But He gave His Son, Jesus, so that by believing in Him, none would perish but have eternal life in His coming Kingdom.  Jesus was without sin and was sacrificed for ours.  That wasn't easy either. That was love.

By loving us as we are and giving us the chance to love others in the same way, we are given the opportunity to be like Jesus.  And that's the goal.  Keep trying.

"Loving them anyway" is so difficult to do... Thanks for the reminder.

I understand that difficulty as well. However, I too believe we are to stand against injustice and speak truth to the lies. It is actually love that makes us respond this way when we come face-to-face with hate. But hate comes with guns and torches, while love comes with candles. All come, but love seeks to do no harm, while hate seeks to destroy.
